Parts of the guitar
What is a fret? Don't fret you will soon learn...

There are some important things you should know about your guitar. Namely what parts make up the instrument so you know what and where the sound we hear comes from. This picture (thanks to www.mangore.com), shows the parts we need to be familiar with.

Some parts we need to get very familiar with are:
- Fretboard also known as Fingerboard
- Frets (which are the metal bars running crosswise on the fretboard...hence the name Fretboard...)
- Soundhole (yep, you guessed it...this is where the sound comes from...see you're getting it already!)
- Bridge ( this is where the strings meet the body on the bottom end of the guitar...)

Find these parts on the pic below

I have to put my finger where?!?!?...

Now for some technical stuff, you will place your finger on the string just above the fret and press down with just enough pressure to hear the sting ring out clearly as you pluck it with your other hand above the sound hole. Try this exercise as you gradually increase the finger pressure on the fret and plucking, you will hear the string 'buzz' and then finally ring clear as you do. This will help you to train your fingers on how much pressure is needed for a clear tone from the strings.
